Abstract

Purpose: It must be realized that constant hormone therapy is needed for patients diagnosed with
premature ovarian failure(POF).
Materials and Methods: A retrospective study was performed on the records of 15 patients who were
diagnosed with POF and had visited the Chungbuk National University Hostpital for 5 years. We
evaluated the symptoms and the consistency of the hormone therapy.
Results: 15 patients with POF were enrolled and 13 patients were treated with estrogen consistently over
5 years.
Conclusion: Patients with POF are deeply upset by the diagnosis, due to the unexpected menopausal
symptoms, but also due to infertility. Therefere, early detection would provide better opportunity for
early intervetion, and the mainstay of treatment is estrogen replacement which needs to be continued
until the average age of the natural menopause.
